  • Overview

    Purpose Statement:

    The Product Development Engineer is responsible for the design, development, testing, validation and documentation of cutting edge products to support custom manufacturing of IDT’s innovative biology products.


    Essential Functions:

    • Responsible for the success of product development assignments throughout the products lifecycle: conception through production, maintenance, and disposal/recycling phases.
    • Works as a project team member, to develop and document design requirements, product structures, build plans and manufacturing processes.
    • Reviews and analyzes materials, design specifications, manufacturing tolerances and processes, assembly specifications and secondary processes for new and existing products to reduce manufacturing time and costs.
    • Manages assigned projects from conception through production and maintenance phases. Promotes effective communication between team members and product customers.
    • Applies good manufacturing practices to product designs and reviews and revises product BOM’s and assembly specifications to improve manufacturability and product quality.
    • Applies technical experience and expertise to problem solving throughout product lifecycle
    • Facilitates Mentors fellow engineers in good product design and manufacturing practices.
    • Provides detailed product design and product documentation per current IDT standards.
    • Develops detailed design and performance requirements and verifies product prototypes meet these requirements.
    • Writes accurate proposals, budgets, schedules and ongoing status reports for assigned projects.
    • Conducts and participates in periodic project reviews to report project progress and technical developments. Identifies and mitigates technical risks.



    • BS degree in engineering or a related field required.
    • Minimum of 4 or more years’ experience with a proven track record of successful product design required.

    Professional Experience:

    • Ten or more years applied engineering experience with a proven track record of successful projects.
    • Formal and/or applied training and work experience in product development and release to production.
    • Proficient with CAD software and other modern engineering design software applications.

    • Repetitive Motion: substantial movements (motion) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
    • Bending: bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist and/or bending leg; bending legs at knee to come to rest or kneel.

    • Ability to read pertinent printed material and distinguish colors.
    • Ability to accurately read measurements on equipment.
    • Ability to prepare and read written documentation; use of computer.
