Overview

The Drafting Technician is responsible for the producing detailed drawings and specifications that support the design, development and testing of products that support custom manufacturing of IDT’s innovative biology products.

Responsibilities

  • Creates detailed two dimensional part and assembly drawings and specifications, using standard drafting practices and GD&T.
  • Works with hand sketches, 2D and solid model data created by multiple engineers to create detailed drawing specifications of mechanical, fluid and electrical systems.
  • Prepares and maintains manufacturing specifications and Bills of Materials (BOMs) using Solid Edge CAD and TeamCenter PLM.
  • Works with engineering staff to produce top level system functional diagrams, layout drawings and other project documentation.
  • Reviews and checks engineering drawings to conventional and departmental drafting and tolerancing standards.
  • Resolves specification discrepancies by collecting, fitting and analyzing CAD data and reviewing requirements with engineering staff.
  • Modifies and revises drawings through formal Engineering Change Order processes (ECO’s).
  • Follows all document and revision control procedures.
  • Maintains clean and orderly workspace.
  • Follows all IDT safety policies, and identify and report potential safety hazards.
  • Demonstrates behavior consistent with the Integrated DNA Technologies Core Values.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Two-year technical degree in drafting technology or equivalent required
  • ASME certification in GD&T (Y14.5 Standard) preferred

Professional Experience:

  • Minimum of two years of years demonstrable CAD experience required
  • Prior drafting experience preferred

Physical Requirements:

Exert 20-50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or 10-15 lbs. of force frequently
